Avandia, Actos and heart attacks, oh my!
The diabetes drugs Avandia and Actos have gotten a lot of press lately due to research that suggests they MAY have an associated higher rate of heart attacks. Reader beware. Sensational headlines grab your attention, but the devil is in the details, so they say.
Please stay tuned for my next column that will focus on the Avandia-Actos debate.
And PLEASE talk with your healthcare provider BEFORE you decide to stop taking any medications.

BILINGUAL DIABETES CARTOONS
Are you looking for an innovative way to soften the blow of diabetes in your practice? Have you looked for diabetes cartoons that are multicultural and found none? Would you like to spice up a presentation with diabetes clip art or learn how to use humor in your practice?
Due to multiple requests from CDEs, I created a CD called “DIABETES CARTOONS (English / Spanish)” with cartoons from her book DIABETease, translated them into Spanish, added select diabetes clip art and tips on how to integrate humor into anyone’s practice. Educators can utilize these in PowerPoint presentations, classes, office art, transparencies, newsletters or websites. The cartoons won the 2004 American Association of Diabetes Educator Allen Van Son Award for best education tool.
