DIABETES PREVENTION

Tips and Guide to Prevention of Diabetes and
Heart Disease

1. Get regular exercise: WALK as much as possible.
2. Lose weight if you are overweight.
3. Eat healthy foods: Cutting down on saturated fats will
reduce cholesterol levels.

Healthy Foods Eat less of these

Traditional meats like: Fats from non-traditional
meats like:
Buffalo Beef (buy lean ground beef)
Deer Pork (cut off layers of fat)
Antelope Mutton (remove fat)
Elk
Fish
Rabbit

USE: INSTEAD OF:

Olive oil Mortons Lard, Crisco, butter
Canola or Vegetable oil

Skinless Chicken, turkey, birds Regular hot dogs
Water packed tuna, salmon Oil packed tuna
Low fat lunch meats Spam and bologna and vienna sausage

Mozzarella cheese Cheddar or American cheese

Skim milk Whole milk
Evaporated skim milk Coffeemate

Light mayonnaise Mayonnaise

Cereal (oatmeal) whole grain bread White tortillas, Fry bread, biscuits
Blue corn mush, blue corn tortillas Greasy snacks (chips, French
fries, crackers, cookies, candy
VEGETABLES & GREENS (add color) ice cream
